Project
Description:

(Client: CO.PA.GI. s.r.l) - Completed all architectural and interior design, as well as technical drawings for the complete refurbishment of an early 20th century building and its 8 apartments, near the Colosseum.

The project involved the comprehensive architectural and interior design for the complete refurbishment of a neglected early 20th-century building near the Colosseum in Rome.

The building and the individual apartments, each requiring individual attention for both architectural and interior design aspects. The structure had suffered from years of neglect, leading to decay and deterioration.

Asbestos removal and structural consolidation were a critical aspect of the project that needed to be addressed, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for future occupants. Naturally the layout of each individual floor had to be redesigned to fit the contemporary standards of living.

I developed a cohesive interior design concept for all apartments, balancing contemporary aesthetics with the historical context of the building. I selected materials that complemented the historical elements while meeting modern standards of comfort and functionality.

We also carried out an infrastructural upgrade by installing a hydraulic lift to enhance accessibility, catering to modern living standards and designed and implemented new electrical wiring and plumbing throughout the building, including a state-of-the-art HVAC system for comfort and energy efficiency.

The refurbished building now stands as a harmonious blend of historical charm and modern functionality. The 13 apartments offer comfortable and contemporary living spaces, while the facades showcase the building's original architectural beauty.

By recognizing the value of adaptive reuse, architects contribute to the responsible and sustainable development of urban environments, ensuring that the legacy of the past is not only preserved but also enhanced for the benefit of future generations.

The restoration and repurposing of historic buildings can stimulate economic activity in the surrounding area, attracting businesses, tourism, and investments which is precisely what happened here and the project turned into a very successful commercial operation and became a benchmark in the promotion of the requalification of the entire area.
